Sneak preview of ‘hospital on wheels’ for Royal Netherlands Army

March 09, 2021

Check out this sneak preview of the first of 5 Medevac Bushmasters built in Bendigo, destined for The Royal Netherlands Army. The Medevac is a unique type of Bushmaster developed by our Thales coworkers in Australia: a hospital on wheels built for the battlefield.

This new type of army ambulance is also the first Bushmaster with front doors. Usually this type of vehicle only had a backdoor, to provide extra (blast)protection to all inside. However, because de Medevac Bushmaster can carry patients in the back, it is important that other passengers can enter and exit without disturbing any medical professionals at work.

The Royal Netherlands Army now operates a fleet of almost 100 Bushmasters; the vehicles have been in service within the Royal Netherlands Army for over 10 years, with a reportedly 'outstanding' operational record. These new vehicles are scheduled for delivery this year: five will be the new Medevac type and one will be an infantry mobility vehicle.
